What is your company's take on Return to Office?

Recently, our working methods have changed significantly. Pandemics have resulted in widespread remote working practices being adopted by businesses; yet opinions on which path should be taken differ significantly between firms.

Some companies may want their workforce back into the office quickly while others prefer keeping things flexible. It's time to examine your overall business strategy; what works and what doesn't; and which elements need your focus?

Working from home can be an excellent choice. Without commute, interruptions and the possibility to catch up on some laundry between meetings, it offers more productivity, improved work-life balance and reduces stress for many employees.

Employee happiness isn't the sole motivating factor behind remote working arrangements.

Businesses that compel employees back into full-time office jobs risk losing talent - especially their best. According to research conducted on firms with stringent Return to Office policies, resignation rates among their staff increased 14% - these being senior staff or highly-skilled workers who leave with years of knowledge and skills they bring with them when they depart.

Reports state that it takes 23% longer and is more costly to hire replacement employees for these roles, especially considering employees want flexibility; companies that provide remote or hybrid positions may have an edge when recruiting talent.

Data security can be challenging. Although working from home or a coffeeshop may seem like an ideal arrangement, public Wi-Fi networks represent a huge security risk that cyber criminals could easily exploit.

If your employees use personal devices that haven't had software upgrades in several months for business use (or share PCs at home with partners and children) without proper protections in place, their data could be at risk. If they also share computers that could compromise it further.

There are easy and effective strategies you can employ to safeguard and expand your business while still permitting employees to work flexibly.

Extra security measures, like multi-factor authentication (the extra code you are required to enter when logging in), can add an extra layer of protection against potential threats. A bit of training could make a big difference.

Should your employees work from home or bring them back into the office? Unfortunately, there is no single-size-fits-all answer to this dilemma.

Others find that giving employees the power to select their work environment brings out their best selves. Finding out what works for your team is truly the challenge!

Be sure to invest in security when permitting people to work from remote locations. Flexible protections and policies can ensure both happy workers and safe business operations.
